Detail
K1, The Finnish Museum of Photography’s new exhibition space, will be opened with an inaugural showcase, featuring two exhibitions in one: Coco Chanel Three Weeks and An Evening with Marilyn by Douglas Kirkland. These two timeless series depict two iconic women who developed a deep understanding of the power of vision and photography.
Kirkland photographed Marilyn Monroe and Coco Chanel in the early 1960s when he worked for Look magazine. These timeless images, taken sixty years ago, guide us in the cult of Hollywood stars and the history of fashion.Viewed today, the works offer a direct view into the early heyday of photography as a central feature of modern consumer culture. The exhibition also explores the life cycles of cultural icons, and the raw power of photography.
Douglas Kirkland has a long career in Hollywood, famous for having portrayed all the greatest movie stars as well as having worked on the sets of over 150 film productions.
The exhibition is organized in collaboration with Photo Op.
